Nation: Northern Italy
Name: Feliciano Vargas
Gender: Male
Appearance of Age: Late Teens, Early Twenties
Hair Color: Brown/Auburn
Eye Color: Brown/Amber
Height: 172 cm (5'7")
Weight: 64.9 kg (143 lbs)
Appearance:
Personality: Italy is, to be quite frank, an irresponsible child. He spends most of his time pestering those who he considers to be friends of his- most notably, Germany, and by extension Prussia. Though he is quite strong, he is also easily frightened into surrendering, mostly because he's seen, in his grandfather (Ancient Rome), the effects that long-lasting wars can have, and he doesn't want that to happen to him... or to his friends. After all, he's already lost the boy that he considered to be his best friend, the Holy Roman Empire, to a long war campaign that he never came back from. Feliciano relies a lot on his friends/allies Germany and Japan to come to his aid whenever he gets in trouble... which is quite often. Usually, this leads to him getting them in trouble too, and though he always apologizes profusely (usually with tears), it doesn't stop him from doing it again and again.
Despite his weak personality, Feliciano is quite cheerful, and can always find something to be happy about, especially if there's pasta around. And he is, if nothing else, predictable. After all, how many people have an internal timer telling them when it's 3 pm, and will always, no matter what, drop what they're doing, strip off their pants, and pass out at exactly 3 pm for their daily siesta? Not many, that's for sure.
When the entire world is collapsing around your ears, take comfort in the fact that Feliciano Vargas will be there... with pasta.

History: Etruscan Civilization
Around 800 BC is where we'll start. Everything before that is merely... yeek. So, around 800 BC on the Italian peninsula, a culture began to form. This culture was increasingly orientalizing, but was also influenced by its Greek neighbors in Magna Graecia, the Hellenic civilization in Southern Italy. The Etruscans were a monogamous society, who were far ahead of any other Italian societies. While Rome was the first official Italic state, it still began as an Etruscan state. It is said that, in Roman mythology, when Romulus and Remus founded Rome, they did so on Palatine Hill according to Etruscan ritual.
Roman Times
According to legend, Rome was founded in 753 BC (though that is rather hard to confirm). As time went on, Rome started to expand its territory, defeating its Italic neighbors one after the other. This went on from around the 5th century BC to the 5th century AD, with lots of wars and so on and so forth. Rome was the center of Wester Civilization, bringing Italy with it to thrive.
Middle Ages
In 476 AD, the last Roman Emperor was overthrown by the Germanic General Odoacer, who then ruled Italy until 493 AD. The Roman customs and culture were mostly maintained. His rule came to an end when the Ostrogoths conquered Italy. This led to the Gothic War, which destroyed the infrastructure of Italy and allowed the more barbaric Germanic tribe, the Lombards, to take control. The Lombards set up camp, so to say, in Northern Italy. That lasted until the 6th century AD, when the Byzantine Emperor Justinian reconquered Italy.
Unfortunately, Justinian's attempts to resurrect the Western Roman Empire were doomed by the waves of invading Germanic Tribes- specifically, the Lombards. For the next thirteen centuries, Italy was a complete wreck, consisting of feuding city states, petty tyrannies and foreign invaders.
Renaissance
By the late Middle Ages, central and southern Italy were much, much poorer than North Italy. The Italian Renaissance began in Tuscany, and was centered in the city of Florence. Rome, in the South, was subsequently rebuilt mostly by the Renaissance Popes. In the late 15th century, however, the Renaissance peaked... and then crashed as foreign invaders sent the region tumbling into turmoil.
1559 - 1796
The War of the League of Cambrai was a major conflic in the Italian Wars, the principal participants of which were France, the Papal states, and the Republic of Venice. Though they were joined at various times by nearly every single major power in Western Europe, such as Spain, the Holy Roman Empire, the Kingdom of England, the Kingdom of Scotland, the Duchy of Milan, Florence, and the Swiss. Following the Italian Wars, Italy saw a long period of relative peace, first under Habsburg Spain, then under Habsburg Austria. During the era of Napoleon, Italy was a client state of the French Republic. The Congress of Vienna took over in the late 18th century, but was quickly overturned by the Italian unification movement.
The Black Death returned again and again to haunt Italy throughout the 14th to 17th centuries. In the first half of the 17th century, some 1,730,000 victims were claimed, or about 14 percent of Italy's population at the time.
Napoleonic Invasion
At the end of the 18th century, Italy was almost in the exact same position that they had been in in the 16th century, only Austria had replaced Spain as the dominant foreign power after the War of Spanish succession. In 1796, however, the situation was shaken up a bit, when the French Army of Italy under Napoleon invaded Italy. In 1805, adter the French Victory over the Third Coalition and the Peace of Pressburg, Napoleon recovered Veneto and Dalmatia, annexing them to the Italian Republic and renaming it the Kingdom of Italy.
After Napoleon was defeated at the Battle of Leizig, his Italian allied stated abadoned him to ally with Austria. Most of Italy was annexed at that point to Austria.
World Wars
In 1887, the Prime Minister, Francesco Crispi, seemed to be mainly concerned with protecting Italy from their neighbor, Austria-Hungary. To challenge the threat, Crispi tried to build Italy into a great World Power. However, this alienated the local agricultural community. The peasants, without stable income, were forced to live off of meager food supplies while disease and plague spread rapidly. The economy suffered, and the government could not effectively deal with the problems.
Still, Italy had begun to create its own colonial Empire. Somalia and Eritrea were colonized, though Italy failed to occupy Ethiopia. In 1911, Italy declared war on the Ottoman Empire ver Libya, and won. The path to a modern liberal democracy, however, was interrupted by the first World War. At the beginning, Italy remained neutral. That ended, however, in 1915 when Italy signed the London Pact, agreeing to declare war on the Austro-Hungarian Empire in exchange for several territories. The war took a huge toll on Italy, killing over 600,000 Italians and causing the economy to collapse. In addition, many of the lands promised to Italy in the pact were not awarded.
In 1922, Benito Mussolini took over Italy with the Fascist government, leading to the alliance with Germany and Japan. In 1935, Italy conquered an empire in Ethiopia, and annexed Albania in 1939. However, the alliance that Mussolini had with Hitler led to Italy's downfal in World War II, and the Allied Powers invaded Sicily in 1943. Mussolini was thrown out, and a new government rose, joining Italy to the Allied Powers.
Italian Republic
In 1946, Italy became a republic after the result of a popular referendum, a day since celebrated as Italy's Republic Day. This was, coincidentally, the first election allowing Italian women to vote. Woo! In 1949, Italy became an ally of the United States of America, and the US helped revive the Italian Economy. Moreover, Italy became a member of the European Economic Community, which would later transform into the EU...
In 2006, a former Prime Minister, Romano Prodi, was elected, and by following a cautions policy of economic liberalization and reduction of public debt, aided in the growth of the Italian Economy. The current Prime Minister is Silvio Berlusconi, who previously led the longest government in post-war Italy.
Allies: Germany, Prussia, Southern Italy, Germany, Poland, France, Austria, Germany, Japan, Hungary

Sample Post: [Please note, this is taken from a Mafia Hetalia thing I did where Feliciano was a (slightly airheaded) priest. >A> If he seems a little bit uh, calm? Yo, man. Place of worship.]
"In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti." The words were a mere breath, barely enough to disturb the incongruous dust on the glittering silver cross that the man knelt before. Slender fingers made the oh-so-familiar trip from the center of his forehead to the center of his chest, up to his left shoulder, and then to the final point on his right shoulder before bringing the wooden cross of his rosary up to press briefly against his lips. Brown eyes glanced up through thick, long lashes at the tortured figure of the Son hanging upon the cross, trails of blood covering his arms, feet and face. Such horror to go through to save the unworthy of this world...
But now was not the time to fall into such deep thoughts. Slowly, Father Feliciano Vargas rose to his feet, not bothering to brush the thick layer of dirt and grime from the bottom of his pure white robe. This empty Church was nothing but dust, anymore- the pews were empty and nearly rotted through, the pulpit crawling with termites. It was a disgrace, and too far gone to be of any use to anyone. Why would they repair such a horrid excuse for a place of worship? No, this building was doomed. Reaching forward, Feliciano lifted the cross from the wall and cradled it in his arms.
This relic, though- this symbol could be saved. As he heard the crash of the demolition beginning behind him, he hugged the cross to his chest and looked down at his feet. "Non preoccuparti, Figlio di Dio, io ora vi darà una vera casa ..."
