Delicate hands gripped the hem of a plaid miniskirt in an attempt to keep them from trembling from a combination of excitement and uneasiness. Liechtenstein had never been so far from home, in a completely different continent and across an ocean in America, of all places. Soft emerald eyes gazed out the window of the vehicle, absorbing the foreign sights of the huge city, and she couldn't believe her entire country could fit inside it over five times. It was so confusing and fascinating and terrifying all at once and she didn't know how she was going to survive there without her beloved adopted brother.
Her eyes flicked to the opposite side of the taxi, where he was sitting, hands clasped, looking even more anxious than she was. She didn't blame him, though, leaving his vulnerable little sister by herself in one of the biggest cities in the world. It was by her own choosing, however; she'd had begged him to let her go to the World Academy and he finally consented, even if it meant not seeing her for months on end. Lili could tell he was imagining all the things that could happen to her without his protection by his apprehensive expression. She let go of her skirt with one hand, quivering slightly, and set it on top of her brother's with an unsure but hopeful smile.
I'll really miss bruder... she realized sorrowfully and foresaw a bad case of homesickness for herself later on. But even with the forlorn thoughts, she tried to brighten them with all the interesting experiences she'd have in the new country. Maybe she'd meet America himself while at the boarding school.
They rode the rest of the way to the school in a peaceful silence, the kind where words couldn't express how they were feeling.
The consciousness that her brother wouldn't be there to say good morning, goodnight, and be always at her side with a gun, just in case, hit her like a ton of bricks as the pulled up to the front of the Academy. It took everything the sixteen year old had to get out of the cab without her legs from falling out from under her. Liechtenstein looked up at the entrance to the school, letting her jaw drop a little in awe. She knew the school would be large, but it looked even bigger than their house. The panic and melancholy of unfamiliarity slowly began to creep through her veins, causing her to completely miss Switzerland's words. "S-sorry, what?"
"I-I promise I'll write to you as often as I can--well, as long as it's not too expensive--and stay away from strangers...and men in general. Don't take detours or shortcuts through alleyways here, I don't trust--"
Before he could finish, she'd thrown her arms around him, feeling a tingling sensation behind her eyes and a lump in her throat. Liechtenstein would even miss his constant warnings and paranoia. She didn't want to let go, but was forced to when he gently pried her from him. The girl quickly wiped her eyes with the back of her hand, forcing a smile to appease her brother.
"J-ja, bruder." she mumbled, swallowing more tears that were threatening to break free. She was handed her suitcase, given a chaste kiss on the cheek, then watched him reenter the taxi that would take him to the airport. Liechtenstein wondered if he'd try to find company while she was gone, maybe even make up with Austria. She'd always wanted the two to get along, since she never really understood why they argued.
Then she suddenly remembered she was alone.
Lili took a deep yet shaky breath and climbed the stairs to enter her new environment. She paused in the doorway, taking in even more incredible, fresh sights. The inside was very different from New York as a whole, an indecipherable mangle of different languages buzzing in the air and even more people. She'd forgotten how big the world was, living in the peaceful Swiss Alps.
It was anything but peaceful in the foyer of the school, however, which made it even more confusing for the poor country girl to figure out where she was supposed to go. Her green eyes were wide with helplessness and confusion, still a little red and puffy from just a few minutes earlier. The fact that every time Lili tried to weave around and through packs of nations, she'd be pushed elsewhere didn't help her growing anxiety, either.

ooc; And cue Spain to the rescue~
Yay for cliche song/thread titles. >> And I don't know if this goes along with your idea of them liking other people, but. ><; I really wanted Lili to be cutely scared and out of her element, so.
I'll also say that I never type this much and don't expect you to. (though I read your Spain app and you can write so much more than this ;; )
And on the HetaliaWiki it said the school was based on one in NYC, so that's where I'm setting it to avoid confusion. x:
