Nation: Kongeriket Norge
Name: Nikolai Korsmo
Gender: Male
Appearance of Age: Early Twenties
Hair Color: Platinum Blond
Eye Color: Crystal Blue
Height: 5"7 ft
Weight: 139 lbs
Personality:
Most people would say that Nikolai was the distant type after meeting him. The type of person to be a loner in large crowds and even the type to wish themselves away from human contact. This is almost true. The Norwegian tends to leave a bad first impression at most the world conferences but somehow he doesn't mind being alone most of the time.
There are very few people he will hang around, the types of people he knows whose personalities match his own. That way it can seem like you're alone without the lack of companionship. Usually, the only ones who can stay quiet long enough are his own brother and a very select few other nations.
There is also the majority of the nations, the ones who tend to see a more stricter side of the man. Nikolai is not the babysitting type so he likes to separate himself from anyone who seems less than capable of surviving without someone to push them along. The best example for this in his own mind is Danmark, the idiot nation who likes to attach himself to the Norwegian. Nikolai tends to go to great lengths to establish space between the two, even other nations as well. The only other ones the blond can say share equal annoyance with the Dane are Gilbert, Alfred, and possibly even that one Korean at times.
Even past the outer shell he's built around himself, there is a side that almost no one ever sees of this man. A more kinder side, if that's even a good word for it. Then again, kinder for the Nordic is simply just not ignoring someone for once. But no, this is in fact, nice. Unfortunately, the two most recent people to see this aren't even people. Birger and Einar are usually the only ones to see the ghost smile and most people don't even believe they exist.
Likes:
‹ Reading ;;
A small hobby of the Norwegian. He prefers to read when either completely alone without distractions or whenever he wants to ignore what's going on during a conference or meeting. Nothing usually pertains to him anyway so why listen to idiotic ideas about blocking the sun with a gigantic superhero? His favourite genres are fairy tales and mysteries.
‹ Nature ;;
Typical for a Norwegian. One of his favourite places to be is just sitting around in the grass at times watching either the sky or scenery depending on where he is.
‹ Animals ;;
Nikolai loves to see different types of animals around his homeland and occasionally leaves food out for the species around his house in Oslo before he leaves for extended trips. His favourite animal is the rabbit.
‹ Music ;;
Something that tends to calm the man down when pushed into a bad mood. He can listen to just about any form of music but pure instrumental compositions are his favourite.
‹ The colour Blue ;;
The colour he can be found wearing almost anytime you were to see the blond. Just about his entire wardrobe is coated in the shade.
‹ The Sea ;;
He loves sailing, swimming, and just being near the water on a beach. Even though it usually is too cold to be hanging around in a swimsuit, these are the few occasions he will actually travel down Europe these days to simply hide away on a beach resort for a few days. Don't be too surprised if you were to visit his home and he was several countries away.
‹ Birger and Einar ;;
Two of his companions that can be found near him at just about any time. Birger, a small, green, chubby fairy, and Einar, an extremely large troll which tends to apperate from here to there, have been around Nikolai for as long as he can remember and are apart of the few things that haven't annoyed the Norwegian at some point.
Dislikes:
‹ Loud People ;;
People he has to put up with on most occasions, like a specific Dane or other Europeans that tend to bother the Nordic whenever they see fit.
‹ Wasting Time ;;
Something he has to deal with a lot due to his companions. If anything, he'd wish to just take over and get things done with as soon as possible. Not that the man had much to do once something was over. He would just rather be doing nothing than something pointless.
‹ Careless Destruction of Nature ;;
Despite his own past, Nikolai has never condoned of anything requiring to destroy a gift of Mother Nature. Man made structures never bothered him, though.
‹ Hunting ;;
A bit of a hypocrite when it comes to this. He isn't a vegetarian, he fishes, he's even done it back in his viking days, but Nikolai would never do it himself in this day and age. Or at least if it was a cute animal.
‹ Showing Emotion ;;
It is unavoidable at times, which would lead to inner cursing, but showing emotion is something the Norwegian tends to avoid if at all possible. It only shows weakness, in his mind, and that is not safe around the people he spends his time with.
Fears:
‹ Losing those near to him ;;
Over time, Nikolai has learned that it is possible for a nation to die. Even though he does push others away, he'd rather the constant annoyances than being completely and utterly alone in the world.
‹ Dying himself ;;
Doesn't everyone somehow fear this?
‹ Another war ;;
They seem to be wearing him down somehow. Keeping out of the line of fire is hard with old urges rising.
Strengths:
‹ The Violin ;;
His favourite instrument and most practiced. He only knows how to play a few compositions by heart but with a sheet of music in front, Nikolai could play just about anything. Given it was a peaceful song, at least. He doesn't care much for speedy songs.
‹ Upper body Strength ;;
An attribute picked up from his past, this type of strength comes in handy around Danmark. Considering the Dane is twice his size and likes to throw himself at the smaller man, Nikolai's evading is the only thing to keep him from using force.
‹ "Cursing" ;;
Or more, making people believe he's cursing them. It is true that he and England share in power for the dark arts but at the same time, Nikolai gets some form of amusement watching people freak out after muttering a few words in a dead language, making them believe it was some sort of spell. It's a much cleaner way of making people avoid him.
‹ Tuning people out ;;
This is Nikolai's favourite strength of his. He could swear that he'd have a much lower IQ if he had to listen to half the drabble that comes out of most his acquaintances mouths.
‹ Criticism ;;
The man always had a knack for picking out the faults in things. This might not be a strength in most peoples eyes but it was for him.
Weaknesses:
‹ Cute things ;;
A guilty pleasure of his that can be easily taken advantage of if you happened to know about his obsession with pink, stuffed rabbits. Just about anything that can be considered cute in his eyes can get you what you want from him.
‹ Sweet tooth ;;
Something not expected of the man. He is a firm believer in the 'dessert before dinner' stance and it's hard to get him to eat anything but.
‹ Building Things ;;
This is just something the man had never been too good with. Building things is Sweden's job after all. His own job is to simply criticize.
‹ Sarcasm ;;
Unfortunately, just about everything that comes out of the Nordic's mouth is sarcastic. Even things meant to be said with good intentions come out sounding like an insult.
‹ Teamwork ;;
No. Just no. He would much rather separate himself from the ones who would rather dump their work on him anyway.
History:
Anything before 800 AD can almost be considered insignificant in other nation's eyes. Young Nikolai watched petty kingdoms grow as an infant nation alone in the freezing temperatures of Scandinavia. A harsh childhood spent either in snow or inefficient housing, the only help in being raised by newfound companionship with several sprites and creatures from the forests, the blonde didn't meet fellow nations until later years when the country began growing itself as a whole.
-picking out only certain time periods-
‹ Viking Age 800 AD - 1066 AD ;;
It was at this point where Nikolai himself separated himself from 'his people' for the time being. The young man's country had been growing much rapidly than the ones south to Scandinavia and he saw that as an advantage in some cases. He himself looked as a human teenager would while some nations still looked in their infant years. Banding together with Danmark and Sverige, Nikolai took to the seas instead of staying in his own home and joined with the vikings in pillaging. This plays a key part as to where the man's abnormal upper body strength comes from in current time.
Over time, they eventually conquered much more land and even found a new, younger nation Nikolai took and cared for as a younger sibling. From another growing nation, England, came the religion of Christianity. The man soon took to that as well and even his king made it the only religion allowed in the country. Around this time, Nikolai began seeing a change in his self-proclaimed best friend. Danmark had began taking more control and spending more time around his home, the Norwegian having his own home under their rule at the time. It did not bode well in his eyes but the man had not yet been corrupted with cynical view.
‹ Kalmarunionen / Danmark-Norge / Unionen mellom Norge og Sverige ;;
The Kalmar Union / Denmark-Norway / Union between Norway and Sweden 1396 AD - 1905 AD
Beginning with a horrible highlight in the life of the old nation, the Black Death. Any humans the man had known began dying left and right and this was when Nikolai learned that nations could not somehow die from diseases such as these. Although that lesson wasn't learned until afterwords, leaving him terrified of dying in his sleep each night.
Taken in by Danmark, the growing nation began to grow ill as his own royal family began dying off and this only worsened his fear of death, making him believe he too shared the same fate as most of his people. In this time, the nation's leaders formed a union for the three men. Time had passed as eventually Nikolai began to see the same changes in the other two countries as he saw in the Dane many years ago. Fights broke out with him unable to stop anything do to his worsening condition and eventually he saw it as something that just had to happen. This is the time when the pessimism began to grow within him. It solidified in his personality after the largest fight between the two ended and the Swede left along with the union as a whole.
Still weak and wanting freedom himself, none of it would be heard by Danmark. The time of their union left Nikolai gaining and losing his strength simultaneously as the victories and losses of his nation continued. Although he continued to grow steadily, it still left him with a hole left by the effects of the plague and many other wrongs left in the hands of his own people. The 18th century passed it's dawning and finally, the man began to regain his full strength, his nation finally prospering again. The negative thoughts remained in his head but somehow, Nikolai began to shape up as a different person. Not happy nor sad or even terrified beyond his imagination. This new man was basically blank. A stoic face resembling Berwald's own appeared out of nowhere and despite the fact the man had never been much of the active type as Danmark was, this completely formed him as people would see him in present day.
The yearning for freedom also began to shape up for the man, seeing as how he was finally strong enough alongside his people to even think about being independent. The revolutions happening elsewhere in other nations began to influence him as well. Already he'd began to see the citizens begin to take things into their own hands. This didn't last too long once the Napoleonic Wars changed the situation and ended the union of Danmark-Norge. Even though the Danish people sped up the process of independence for his own nation and even had adopted a constitution, the war threats were too much for his current crown prince and a person union was formed between the two nations without the nation himself having a say.
Being sent to Berwald's home, Nikolai began to realise he somehow missed being under the Dane's roof. There he still had his younger brother and Danmark, although annoying, was still more vocal than the Swede. This was a peaceful time for the man, though. It didn't help shape his personality at all when around the previous influence for it more often and it completely sunk in to the Nordic.
Time slowly passed and in the end, a peaceful dissolution was made and the man finally had the freedom he longed for.
‹ WWI / WWII / Present Day ;; 1905 AD - Present
The time of World War 1 was a very straightforward time. Not wanting anymore to do with outside wars or anything of the sort, he was quickly made neutral. This, however, didn't change the outlook he did have on the war itself. He was very much for the allies but even though he declared himself as a neutral party, much assistance was sent over from his nation to Great Britain as a source of help. Despite being nicknamed the Neutral Ally, Nikolai never changed his status once.
World War 2 was a different story however. Like the first, he was quick to declare neutrality and separate himself once again. This didn't stop the war from coming to him, however. The Nazi attack on Oslo caught even him by surprise. With nowhere else to go, Nikolai's fear of death soon resurfaced as he made way up north to get as far from the capital as possible. It didn't help much but he watched the war play out from there and during the time, refused to refer to himself as a nation but instead, a fellow citizen of the kingdom. The war came to a close after the years of hiding and the man came back even more isolated than before. He began, even then, to avoid those he'd considered close, usually only opening up to his mythical companions and younger brother.
Things flew through the Cold War era, Nikolai himself letting his own people work it out for their own, only occasionally taking part in nation meeting for NATO. He didn't want to go through complete seclusion again so from time to time he would in fact loosen up. This leads to present day, personality set in from events in the past. Like his people, the man began focusing more on his culture and even taking few interests in foreign affairs.
Allies:
-Iceland He has a habit of treating him as a young child, teasing him frequently out of habit.
-Sweden Sharing a similar personality, the two seemed to always get along.
-Finland Tends to treat him as a younger brother sometimes as well. Most likely for his feminine features.
-Denmark Despite how much he avoids him on a regular basis, he still considers him a friend.
-England A very odd alliance in his eyes. Mostly based on the fact of past raids in the Viking age but the two still can be seen around each other in present day.
-Netherlands Mainly for the fact their countries have a trading alliance, Nikolai took a liking to him mainly for his pet rabbit.
-Japan Purely on Nikolai's own terms. His own secret obsession for cute things leads to rare trips to Japan for mainly shopping. If anyone were to ask, it was for the beaches.
Enemies:
-
-Russia He tended to send shivers down anyone's spine, anyway. Even the stoic Norwegian.
-Germany Only slight resentment here. Past grudge inflicted on the wrong person type relationship.

Within Granor Great Hall, past the workers setting up for The Granor Soiree's first Masquerade ball, was a well taken care of bar meant for occupation by whomever was catering the event. This year was the Town of Zequea's very own Nordic Bar. An unoriginal name but short, sweet, and to the point.
The temporary bar was well kept enough to the point of where it looked as if no one had ever even used it before. The floors were waxed earlier on the day before, the tables were wiped down along with the chairs, everything was dusted as if there was any dust to begin with, and to top it all off, the glass's shined like diamonds. Unfortunately, among all the perfection, there was one blemish on the counter. Nikolai Korsmo, the co-owner of the Nordic Bar, was perched on the far end of the wood-top counter polishing his beloved violin. Having brought the instrument from his home, he honestly didn't want to leave it alone if the bar were broken into over the week. Even though just about everyone from the town came along with the Nordics, it was never a bad thing to be safe.
The Norwegian looked out with his face as apathetic as ever, glancing around at the cleaning going on or at least from what he could see. A sigh emitted, returning his gaze back to his possession, giving it one last wipe before deciding to put it away. The man hopped down and stepped behind the counter to place the violin in a safe place he'd found while cleaning up.
There was nothing else to do. He'd done just about all there was to do in the area he was allowed to roam with the commotion and his family skipped out earlier. The man thought at least Tino would keep him company out of pity. Nikolai was told at least one person would have to be in the bar at all times when the hall had other's inside and he just happened to end up as the unlucky, bored-as-hell soul.
Walking over to a patron's table, another perch was made of the top seeing as how the man didn't feel like disturbing either of the chairs. This bar they'd been offered was ... too pretentious for his tastes. The bar back home was a worn down piece of shit but it was what he was raised in.
Another look around with his piercing blue eyes, a headache was brewing in the back of his mind, knowing for a fact this was going to be a long week. Nikolai stepped off the table and stepped toward the frame the officials liked to call a 'door', slightly amused at the sight of Birger flying around. At least he was enjoying himself. Einar was probably outside the apparent cage for the Nordic as well, wandering above the crowds knowing him. Seemed like everyone ditched the man for more fun things to entertain themselves with.
Did you read the rules?
Everyone knows that chicks love pancakes with epically awesome maple syrup on it.
